Frequently Asked Question

Terrariums are fairly low maintenance and the plants growing inside them will largely look after themselves. Closed jars will create their own ecosystem and even become self-watering. You just need to place them in bright indirect sunlight.

Our closed terrariums primarily require an adequate amount of bright indirect sunlight for survival. They have their own mini ecosystem inside the closed jars, hence they do not require regular watering, fertilizers or any other regular maintenance.

Factors like light, moisture, temperature, selection of plants, and size of the container, all play a role in the lifespan of a terrarium. Under optimal conditions and when properly cared for terrariums can last for decades. You just need to place your terrarium in bright indirect sunlight.

Closed terrariums require high amounts of light, so keep them in a bright spot but out of direct sunlight as this could cause the contents to overheat. Similarly, keep your terrarium away from radiators or other heat sources that could cause overheating.

The plant reuses the carbon dioxide present in the sealed up bottle to produce oxygen via photosynthesis and it uses the surplus of oxygen to produce carbon dioxide via respiration. This means that there is no need for frequent airing of your terrarium!

Even though a closed terrarium like a pop bottle does not get new air, the plants inside constantly recycle the air. During the day, plants generate sugars in the complicated process of photosynthesis. As part of this process, they convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, releasing the excess oxygen into the air.

Terrarium fog is a natural process that is caused by condensation on the container. Small levels of condensation will not be harmful to your terrarium.
